French-born Souad Amidou is of Moroccan descent and a popular and powerful force in French cinema. (American audiences will have to settle for seeing her in only one Hollywood film, as Yussef’s wife in Steven Spielberg’s Munich (2005) starring Daniel Craig.) In only her second movie as an adult, Souad earned a nomination for a César Award (like an Oscar) for Most Promising Actress for her role as Zina Khelifa in Le Grand Frère (1982), aka The Big Brother, co-starring Gérard Depardieu. Her skinematic moments include playing Salima in Petit Con (1984), her ripe breasts on display; in bed naked with Depardieu while in character as Radia Ben Saïd in Le plus beau métier du monde (1996), aka The Best Job in the World; and as Fabienne in a group shower scene in 3 Zéros (2002), aka Shooting Stars, a soccer comedy featuring a lot of famous football players playing themselves, as well as Souad, Emeline Bayart, and eight other fully naked girls in the shower singing. (As an interesting sidenote, factoid sort of thing, Souad was married to the director of that film, Fabien Onteniente, for a few years.) Remember when Mr. Skin said “as an adult” when referring to movie roles? That’s because when the actress was a mere seven-years old, she appeared as Françoise Gauthier in the movie A Man and a Woman (1966). Mr. Skin mentions this role not only because it’s another interesting sidenote, factoid sort of thing, but because this particular film was the recipient of two Oscar awards, one for Best Foreign Language Film, and one for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay; and two Cannes Film Festival Awards—plus ten other wins and 14 additional nominations. Proving Souad knew what she was doing from day one.
